Stuck in Our Ways: What Happens When Your Job Doesn't Fit Your Mind?

I think about so many people I know who are in the wrong job.

If you're a creative, you can often find creativity anywhere — seek it out, and you can get genuinely excited about going to work. But sometimes the job and your skills are just not a match. No amount of reframing changes that.

I think that's part of what drew me to write The Crocheting Scientist — and there's a quiet message in there for parents too, about keeping an open mind for how your young person does things, thinks things, and makes things.

The book touches on ideas that I find endlessly fascinating:

  • The wonderful world of multiple intelligences

  • The different ways individuals learn and problem solve

  • Our individual Ikigai — the intersection of what you love, what you're good at, and what the world needs

  • The things that genuinely get us excited about life

  • How beautifully different minds can be

And a small, heartfelt shout-out to anyone who:

  • Found the courage to leave a job that wasn't supporting their creativity

  • Disrupted their own career path and did something unexpected for a while

  • Spends their days helping others find their own way of being in the world

You know who you are. This one's for you.

You can find The Crocheting Scientist on Amazon — a playful celebration of the minds that don't quite fit the mould.
